"The collection of Boo sofas and armchairs was devised with carefree relaxation in mind. It owes its cosy appearance, maximum comfort and functionality to carefully selected upholstery composites and cover sewing technology. Boo design underscores the main feature of our brand’s products: comfort. The warm feeling, soft seat and appropriately high, ergonomic backrest for the body and head are complemented by great attention to upholstery details. Along with cosy cushions, these communicate a clear message: it is a casual design that invites you to relax in a homely atmosphere.   Decorative hem, available in contrasting colour variations, allows for lending Boo an individual character. An added value of Boo is its unfolding system, available both for the sofa and the armchair. The sofa can be easily transformed into a comfortable bed without the necessity to remove any of the elements."

Genesis and inspirations

Decorative hem, available in contrasting colour variations, allows for lending Boo an individual character. An added value of Boo is its unfolding system, available both for the sofa and the armchair. The sofa can be easily transformed into a comfortable bed without the necessity to remove any of the elements. The mechanism is equipped with a separate comfortable mattress, guaranteeing a good sleep. The cover is removable for easy cleaning or changing. The Boo collection also includes a version of the sofa and armchair with waxed oak legs, but without the bed function.

Boo is the last item of furniture designed together by Maja Ganszyniec and Krystian Kowalski. It culminates the work of the Kompott studio, which they had formed since 2009 alongside Paweł Jasiewicz, now a lecturer at Warsaw’s Academy of Fine Arts, and Marcin Krygier.

It was then that the idea came for a multidisciplinary design collective that would combine completely different approaches to design. That was because each member originated from a different academic tradition. Maja Ganszyniec, a graduate in interior design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, gained experience at the Milanese design studios Atelier Mendini and Mario Bellini and London’s Ultimo Grito. Krystian Kowalski graduated from the Royal College of Art. Paweł Jasiewicz graduated from the Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College. Marcin Krygier developed his career as a photographer and studied in Madrid.

According to the far-reaching concept of the designers working as part of Kompott for the longest time and until the very end – Maja and Krystian – Boo is meant to emanate the style and vision of an unpretentious piece of furniture of their generation. Somewhat against the perennial pursuit of so-called elegance, the designers chose a free-and-easy casual form, focussing on functionality and refined upholstery details. Boo was not supposed to represent the “normcore” aesthetics, but rather to seek a new language of comfort. The obvious comfort of vast and soft forms is underscored by literal references to shapes and details bringing to mind bedding and bedroom spaces. Thus, Boo’s silhouette almost screams comfort, softness and warmth. This item of furniture is cosy and practical. The designers also thought about the practical side of city life. Instead of professional dry cleaning, the cover may be easily removed and quickly taken to the laundry. Legs made of solid oak, available in the non-foldable version, are an additional detail and enhance the aesthetic impression while making it easier to maintain cleanliness under the sofa.
